Solji Kim's Speech
김솔지의 축사
Hello, everyone. My name is Kim Solji, and I am honored to stand here today as a friend of the bride, Kim Ji-hyun.
On this beautiful day in March, I am truly grateful to be here celebrating the wedding of Ji-hyun and Aaron.
First of all, I really appreciate all the guests who took the time to attend. I apologize for giving my speech in Korean as my English is not very good. I’d like you to look at the pamphlet in front of you as I will be using some English in my speech.
It’s been a while, Ji-hyun...
Even after exchanging countless notes and letters over the past 13 years, standing here to speak in front of so many people feels nerve-wracking and humbling. Being here today, representing your friends, is truly special and makes me very happy.
I first met you in early 2012. You, commuting from far away, always looked sleepy, sitting at your desk. I, who arrived earlier, used to watch you from behind. Looking back, you really did resemble a little koala.
As the new semester started, we were assigned to the same class and became close so quickly that I don’t even remember how it happened. We were inseparable, sharing lunch and dinner every day.
We used to fight so often over little things, only to make up after eating. Looking back, it was both intense and kind of adorable. It’s not easy to stay close while fighting that much, but we did. I’m proud of us, and I’m so grateful to have you in my life.
When you told me you were settling down in Australia, I felt a little sad, knowing we wouldn’t be able to see each other whenever we wanted. But I wasn’t worried—because I’ve always known that no matter where you go, you’ll do well.
Now, you’re not alone in Australia. You have wonderful friends, a strong and loving husband, Aaron, and soon, your little one, Pom-Pom. That gives me great comfort.
Whether it was one year or ten years, whenever we talked about the future, I always thought, ‘This friend is truly incredible.’ You’ve always inspired me and influenced me in the best ways. Seeing the future you dreamed of become a reality is deeply moving and makes me so proud.
I hope you build a beautiful life with your new family in Australia.
I’ll always be here in Korea, cheering for you as your number one friend.
Before I finish, I’d like to say a few words to Aaron.
When Ji-hyun told me she had found the person she wanted to spend her life with, I knew right away that you must be someone truly special. And after meeting you, I can see why.
I have had the privilege of knowing Ji-hyun for 13 years, and in that time, she has been one of the wisest, most intelligent, and kind-hearted friends I could ever ask for. She is strong and graceful, always carrying herself with quiet determination. But even the strongest among us have moments when they need support. I have no doubt that you will be the steady, loving presence she can always lean on, just as she will be for you.
I trust Ji-hyun wholeheartedly, and because she chose you, I trust you as well.
Congratulations to both of you. May your life together be filled with love, happiness, and endless laughter.
Wishing you both a lifetime of joy. Cheers!
